10. Tips &
Troubleshooting
- Passenger
registration will not stay.
As of version 3.0, the registration information is stored
in the Passenger Preferences in the Preferences folder of the Passenger
folder. This is intended for better portability of a registered copy of
Passenger. In order for this to work properly, the Preferences folder
in the Passenger folder should have read/write permissions.
- Need to get the data back to your
database with all those passwords?
Use the Delimited Text export and decide yourself the
fields you want and in what order. Then import the resultant file into
your favorite database.
- OD problems, passwords not working
If you are talking to Apple support and they casually
blame Passenger for problems with Open Directory, follow these steps.
1. Make sure you are using the latest version of Passenger since a a
general rule, the latest version has the least known problems. 2. Make
sure you can create users manually in Workgroup Manager. 3. Make sure
you have chosen a Password Type of Open Directory in Passenger's OS X
Setup dialog. 4. If this fails to solve the problem, realize that
Passenger's export is just a text file open to scrutiny. It is possible
that Apple can point to what is wrong in the text file and if it is the
fault of Passenger you can report that to jay@macinmind.com.
- Importing
mutliple short names into 10.4
Use commas in the short name concatenation as the divider
between each short name. As of 10.4.2, only the first short name of
multiple short names imports into Workgroup Manager. The workaround is
to import the same file into Workgroup Manager again, opting to append
to existing.
- Can't
open files exported from Passenger.
The text files produced all have their creator set to
ttxt which is Simple Text and TextEdit. These text files can be opened
in most applications that accept the type 'TEXT'. You can change the
creator in the preferences.
- Accented
characters in names.
If your names have accents, make sure the text file you
import into Passenger is UTF-8 in order to preserve them.
Think
Passenger should be able to do something that it doesn't. Suggest it to
jay@macinmind.com.
